Patricia L. Bounds

PhD, Scientific Writer

Patricia L. Bounds was born in 1955 in Baltimore MD, USA.

Patricia completed her B.A. in Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1977. After working 4 years as a laboratory technician, she studied Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, completing the PhD in 1987. After postdoctoral fellowships at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge LA, she joined the Chemistry and Physics faculty of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond LA in 1992, where she taught biochemistry and general chemistry lecture and laboratory courses.

Since relocating with her family to Zürich in 1994, she has worked as a senior researcher in Inorganic Chemistry at the Swiss Federal Technical Institute and as an assistant editor for Helvetica Chimica Acta, the journal of the New Swiss Chemical Society. In addition to authoring and co-authoring several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, she has written, translated, and edited medical and scientific news articles for online and printed publications. Her scientific interests include protein oxidation, electron transfer in biomolecules, and molecular mechanisms of magnetoreception.

Patricia joined IT'IS in October 2012.
