Virtual Population V2.0:
High-Resolution Made Simple

The Virtual Population V2.0 currently consists of the Virtual Family. The 4 models are simplified CAD files optimized for finite-element modeling in any third party platform.

The models are based on the high-resolution V3-x models but simplified to include only 22 separate tissues or tissue groups. Those tissues are identical in all 4 models, beside the reproductive system, which is gender-specific.

In response to increasing demand we are now releasing V2.0 whole-body shells.

Compatibility with previous versions

Virtual Family models V2.0 are not warrantied for compatibility with V3-x as they are geometrically based on the same image data but with simplified tissues.

Remarks

  • The V2-x models are simplified in view of tissue numbers but not in view of tissue resolution. Accordingly, individual tissues are composed of high numbers of triangles and the whole body triangle count ranges between 3.6 - 7.7 million. Some software tools are unfortunately not able to deal with such high resolution surfaces. Several software tools will still manage to discretize the V2.0 models, including Sim4Life.
  • The V2-x models are distributed as surface meshes in STL format. Each tissue is stored as a separate surface mesh, which is guaranteed to be closed, but may contain non-manifold edges or vertices (for details please read our method description). Note also that some software tools are unfortunately not able to deal with non-manifold surfaces. Several software tools will still manage to discretize the V2.0 models, including Sim4Life.
  • The weight, height and BMI of V2.0 models correspond to those of V3-x. However, note that as there are no tissue properties attributed to the tissue groups in V2.0, the weight and height values have not been recalculated.

Distribution

These simplified models are distributed by IT'IS and are free of charge for everyone (except for handling fees). To obtain the Virtual Family models, click on the model of interest in the table above to be re-directed. The download procedure will begin with a click on the model's DOI number.
